Open Schools in the Neighborhood

ARSIS – Association for the Social Support of Youth is participating in the program “Open Schools in the Neighborhood” through the action “Poem: Innovative Yard Stories”, which is implemented from the 6 June-27 July and 1-30 September.

The program “Open Schools in the Neighborhood” is an initiative of the Education and Sports Department of the municipality of Thessaloniki, in partnership with the Creativity Platform (AMKE) which coordinates the program, exclusively funded by Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

It is regarding an innovative pilot scheme, which’s main goal is the opening of schools, neighborhood, and local authority on the subjects of pedagogy, creative occupation, encouragement and support of the children, parents and citizens.

The program’s aim is the designation of the school as a core area of improvement of quality of life in every neighborhood, as well as the meaning of ‘community’, which contains a mutual meeting, cooperation, play, exercise and entertainment ground.

ELFO: European Programme for empowering the institutions of foster care and guardianship

ARSIS – Association for the Social Support of Youth in collaboration with other non-governmental organizations active in child protection issues from Italy, Spain, Bulgaria and Portugal have started since 1 December 2016 the ELFO program co-funded by the Program “Rights, Equality and Citizenship’ of the European Union (2014-2020).

The general objective of the project is to improve the level and quality of protection of child victims or potential victims of violence by empowering guardians, legal representatives and foster parents of children deprived of parental care within an integrated child protection framework.Empowering of guardians and foster parents could be a key element in preventing violence and ill-treatment of children deprived of parental responsibility.

“Emergency Support to Refugees and Migrants in Greece”

ARSIS – Association for the Social Support of Youth, implements the project “Emergency Support to Refugees and Migrants in Greece” in collaboration with OXFAM Novib and with the financial support of the Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection fund (ECHO). The implementation period of the project is from 1/6/2016 until 31/12/2017 and has as an aim the support of the refugees in Epirus region.

Arsis from June to December 2016 provided psychosocial support services to the entire refugee population, organized creative activities to empower and mobilize refugees in all refugee emergency reception sites of Epirus Region such as Katsika, Filippiada, Tsepelovo, Doliana and Konitsa.

Arsis continued to work in the region from December 2016 until June 2017, while its activities were more focused on the management, coordination and provision of daily care and psychosocial support to refugees hosted in 5 hotel units for 6 months in Epirus region. At the same time, Arsis continued the organization of creative activities for children in Child Friendly Space of Konitsa, as well as provision of psychosocial support to Filippiada and Konitsa and organization of activities aimed at the community engagement.

Organizing the supporting network for social integration and empowerment of minor refugees and their families in the Thessaloniki area

ARSIS – Association for the Social Support of Youth implements the project “Organizing the supporting network for social integration and empowerment of minor refugees and their families in the Thessaloniki area” in collaboration with ASB (Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund), funded by the German Federal Foreign Ministry – GFM. The implementation period is from 01/02/2017 to 31/05/2018 and the project aims at organizing supporting activities for refugee children, youth and their families through the operation of a Youth Support Centre (YSC), on the 1st floor at 40 Ptolemeon street, Thessaloniki.  

The Youth Support Centre (YSC) is an existing structure of ARSIS that adopts a holistic approach in the child protection sector.

The activities of the Youth Support Centre are supported by a Social Service, a programme of Educational Support and Recreational Activities, beneficiaries’ Administrative Support and Support in Kind (NFIs and FIs). For the approach of the beneficiaries ARSIS also uses the methodological tools of Street Work and Mobile School.

Youth Support Center “Youth Land!!”

The impact of the economic crisis has significantly exacerbated the deficits in programs, services and support systems for adolescents and post-teenagers. Alongside, social pressure is related and affects the lives of children and young people, creating inequality and difficult conditions for their development, forming identities, behaviors and alternatives which are often characterized by anger, violence, conflict with institutions or adults & authority figures or they lead to inaction, internalization of rejection, victimization, passivity and loss of rights claim.
